So is this why I’ve been Obsessed with Tetris Party on the Wii lately?

According to researchers at Oxford University, playing the popular, classic puzzle game Tetris after a traumatic experience could significantly reduce emotional scars. Apparently Tetris—which requires serious brain power on your part—blocks your brain from storing those bad memories. The catch: It needs to be played immediately following the traumatic event, so break out your old Game Boys and stick ‘em in your emergency kit. Photo by Micah Taylor. [via]

You have to arrange the bad memories so they fit together, each time you complete a row, that row of bad memories disappear. Unfortunately, the longer you do this, the faster the bad memories fall, making it harder and harder to keep up.

Weeeee fit.

October 20th, 2008

Yay!  I got up this morning and did Yoga on Wii Fit.  I rock!!  :)

Of course, then I got to work this morning and had a (small) slice of pumpkin bread that someone brought in and left in the kitchen.  D’oh.

But I’ve been able to stay away from sugar and cream loaded coffee this AM and I didn’t stop for a bagel or anything on the way in.  I’m digging Green Tea right now and if I still feel the “need” to eat more after my pumpkin bread I’ll have some oatmeal.

Go healthy lifestyle changes!  ;)

They say it’s my Birthday…

Wii Fit asks me if today is a Special Day...
Wii Fit wishes me Happy Birthday

Today’s my birthday!! Last birthday in my 20s. I’m 29 – I can’t actually believe I’m that old! I got up and did Wii Fit today and it wished me happy birthday. Adorable.

Alex gave me my birthday gift last night – the perfect geeky gift – a 1 TB Time Capsule (wireless HD with a built in 802.11n wireless router). It was perfect and unexpected. I totally wanted another Hard Drive and I really wanted another router. So yay!!!!

Must go get ready for work (blech. People should have free days off on their birthday…)

I

I mean, it’s just about the cutest thing ever. We have the Wii Fit and it really is fun to exer-play. I think that it might actually keep me motivated to lose weight since it weighs you when you play and you can take a fitness test and see a little graph chart with your weight and BMI. The little voice it uses is adorable too. When you step on the balance board, it goes, “ooh” in this tiny voice that makes you think it’s saying that because you’re a tubby and much heavier than it expected. Somehow, I don’t find that insulting. I’m overweight according to the fit test (and according to me and according to anyone who looks at me) and I actually think it’s sooooooo cute when it calculates my BMI and then says very matter-of-factly in this tiny mechanical voice “that’s overweight”. Anyway, just having a bit of Wii love. Wiiiiiiiiiiiii! ;)

wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

September 23rd, 2007

So, Alex’s birthday is Tuesday. Every time I’ve asked him what he wants for his birthday over the past few weeks/months/whatever, he’s said a Wii. Every time we’ve gone to EBGames, we’ve asked, “Do you have any Wii’s in stock?” and the answer has always been a (snotty) “NO!” So, this morning when I asked Alex again what he wanted for his birthday and he said, “a Wii” I said, “Fine. Well, I’ll give you the number to EBGames and if they have a Wii, I’ll buy you one. If not, you’ll have to tell me something else to get you.” So he called. And they had Wii’s in stock. Said they figured that no one new about them because they’ve been in since yesterday and they haven’t sold out yet. Alex said, “I’ll be there in ten minutes!” and proceeded to rush me to put some pants on and forget about my hair and let’s go!!!!

So now we’re the proud owners of a Wii. Most expensive birthday gift I ever gave anybody… But probably also the best. We’ve been having so much fun tonight!! We’ve played table tennis, tennis, fishing, pong, some weird tank game and now we’re bowling. It’s funny how we won’t go bowling in real life but we’ll Wii bowl in our living room. I’m doing pretty well – as usual I barely broke a hundred my first game and now I’m kicking butt in the second game and will probably beat my last score by 50 pins or so. To make the bowling experience more authentic we broke out the Guns and Roses and some beer. Now we’re just missing the sketchy people in the lane to one side and some people that one of us graduated with that we’re pretending we never knew in the other lane. So I guess it’s not the complete authentic Clifton Park Bowl experience, but it’s close. ;)

Anyway, we’re super-excited about the Wii. It’s great to have a gaming console that we both want to play and it’s a lot of fun to play together. Wiiiiiiiiiiiii! :)
