I had this fab idea today: I’d buy a red tshirt and iron on the Wonder Woman logo on the front of it and wear that, along with dark blue jeans and red boots for a work appropriate Halloween costume. Brilliant!
I spent about an hour when I got home searching for a high res Wonder Woman logo and cutting it out in Pixelmator so that I had just the logo and no background. Then I went to Target and tried on every red tshirt I could find until I settled on one from the clearance rack (score!). Then I found big gold bangles to represent her wrist cuffs and a gold headband to stand in for her tiara (all of which were also on clearance (double score!)). I also was able to buy iron on paper at Target, but unfortunately, they only had iron on paper for light colored shirts. I bought it anyway, figuring that it couldn’t make that big of a difference.
I got home and printed out the logo I’d worked on earlier on plain paper first to test the color (needed to be brightened to stand up to the red shirt) and then printed it out on the iron on transfer paper. I very carefully cut the design out of the paper and the set up a workspace as dictated by the directions: no ironing boards, the tshirt laid out on a pillowcase on a hard flat surface at waist height. I lined up the logo on the top center of the tshirt and then thouroghly ironed it on. When the shirt was cooled down, I peeled off the backing.
The design stuck well on the tshirt, but since I could only find the transfer paper for light shirts and I was working with a red shirt, it didn’t look right. It looks vert faded, like I’ve had the shirt for years. I still like it, but I don’t know if it makes sense as a halloween costume now, since it’s not dramatic looking and looks like a regular tshirt. I don’t think that I’ll be able to find the dark tshirt iron-on paper anywhere around here before Friday and I’m pretty sure I have the last red shirt from the clearance rack, so I probably won’t be able to do it over and I’ll probably just wear it on friday anyway. Why not?
Also, creating my own custom shirt with an iron-on was hella easy and fun.
queue the BNL song… Yet again, I find myself unable to sleep because Alex isn’t here. He is out on a case again (which means that he is hating life right now). Hopefully he’s trying to focus on the bright side: since he’s still out on a case, he doesn’t have to work tomorrow, and we are both taking Friday off just to hang out with each other and he’s not on call this weekend, so that means he’s having a four day weekend – and the weather is supposed to be perfect.
I’ll get to sleep eventually tonight. I’m all wound up right now because I just finished watching “Across the Universe” and I really enjoyed it and I’m all on a Beatles high. I’m so sad, though, that I lost most of my Beatles collection of music in the fire. I have just a few albums now, where before I had pretty much all of them. Sigh. I remember excitingly purchasing the anthologies in high school with my Price Chopper money… Wish I at least had those back again. But buying physical CDs is such a pain in the toe and they’re not on iTunes so buying them again seems terribly inconvenient. Wow. I’m lazy.
Alex is out on a case tonight – actually, his 4th case since Wednesday night, which means he’s been away working more than he’s been home lately – so I’m entertaining myself. It was absolutely gorgeous out today, so I went for a few walks around the area, which was nice. Got to catch up on my podcasts. I went to Target a little earlier and for the past few hours I’ve been playing with a bunch of freeware that I found for my iMac while watching episodes of Buffy on Hulu. I’ve already seen all of seasons one and two, which are all they have posted, but I’ve got a terrible memory for details when it comes to books, tv shows, and movies, so I can watch things over and over again and not get bored… and still be surprised at what happens or still experience extreme emotional reactions. Like tonight – I finished watching season two (d’oh! They don’t have season three up yet…) and at the end of that season, Buffy has to kill Angel, right after his soul gets returned to him (it all makes sense when you’ve been watching the show…). I am sitting here sobbing like a baby watching this episode, and I’ve seen it before! Here’s the scene (after a brief commercial):
Wicked sad, right? (By the way… Isn’t Hulu cool?! You can create your own custom clips to embed on your website. I mean, you have to watch ads, but whatever, it’s free for me and everyone has to make a dollar, right? Oh, and the entire episode can be watched right from that clip, just click backwards in the time elapsed thingy at the bottom… I love it!!)
Now I’ve got to figure something else out to watch while I wait for Season three to be posted… Hmmm… Maybe they have Angel on Hulu…
It’s 8pm on a Friday night. I’m not TOO old yet. But I’m sitting at home with the hubby having a quiet night in the living room. I’m such a geek because I’m TOTALLY OK with the fact that we’re not going to go out and do something super cool tonight because… “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” season 2 just got added to www.hulu.com! Hulu is a pretty awesome site that allows you to stream some current and some older TV shows and some movies (though I think they’re edited for TV viewing). It’s add-supported, so every commercial break, you have to watch 1 commercial. I’m OK with that. A couple of weeks ago when I first discovered Hulu (when they were still in Beta), I watched the complete Buffy Season 1 and became addicted (again – I used to obsessively watch Buffy repeats on TV a couple years ago). I was super excited to discover today that they just added season 2. Oh yeah. I know what I’m doing all weekend. (By the way, Wham and Pa, check out Hulu… I’m not sure if they allow streaming outside of the US, but if so, it’s another option for some good ol’ American entertainment.)
…how crappy I feel. It came on soooooo quickly. I didn’t feel this bad even a couple of hours ago. I pretty much can’t get off the sofa and all I want to do is whine. Alex isn’t here for me to whine to, so the blog is getting the brunt of the whining, along with the cats (but they can run away… Damn mobile cats shunning me!). Ugh. Achey. Waaaaaaaah….
I was going through my bookmarks this AM trying to just clean them up and found an old bookmark to Overheard in New York. I can’t stand how freaking funny I find this site….
Guy #1: I haven’t seen you in a while. What have you been up to? Guy #2: Well, I’m in the process of switching web hosts, and it’s going to be saving me a few bucks a month. I just need to decide what Linux distribution to use. What about you? Guy #1: I got married and we had a baby. Guy #2: That’s cool.
The Photojojo Newsletter had a link to MorphThing the other day. I read the newsletter at work and couldn’t wait to get home and morph pics of me and Alex to get a preview of what our kid might look like some day. I couldn’t find any pictures of Alex without his facial hair, so we’ve got a son. It’s very odd to look at the morphed pic – to be able to see a bit of myself and a bit of Alex in the person in the picture. I guess it’s a sneak preview of what I’ll feel when I look at our kids some day….
I couldn’t take the hair across the forehead, so I cleaned up “our son’s” head in Photoshop….
I still have 51 open tasks left on my wedding related to do list, but tonight I have SUCKED big time with getting stuff done. All I could do all night was surf Engaget’s posts on the iPhone. It is the coolest thing ever. Alex and I are planning on buying each other one for Christmas – well, a late Christmas gift as my Sprint contract doesn’t expire until February. Gives us plenty of time to save up – and maybe by then we’ll be into the next generation of them. I’m completely obsessed at the moment with my need for one. So cool. Went to the Apple store the other week and played with one and totally fell in love. Sprint sent me a “loyalty reward” today. If I call and sign up for another 2 year agreement, I get a $100 service credit. The mailing was totally geared towards their younger customers by the look of the font and graphics. Sorry Sprint: the iPhone had me at hello.
I also somehow stumbled across the Nabaztag/tag wifi bunny. How cute is that?! He can tell you the time, read you RSS feeds, play your subscribed to podcasts, tell you the weather, and send and receive messages to friends. Soooo adorable! I envision how cute it would be if the family got one as well – we could send little messages through our bunnies back and forth from Dubai. Weeeeeee!
OK. I’m loopy. Must get back to wedding chores. Oh! And tomorrow’s my birthday – yay! But then I’m old – boo!
