Punch Buggy Blue! No Punch Backs!

April 23rd, 2007

That never gets old. I love when I’m out driving around and I hear that. Now that it’s BEAUTIFUL out, I can have my windows open! Yay! Of course, I HAVE to have my windows open when it’s warm because my AC is busted – it probably just needs to be recharged (or at least I hope that’s it), but I haven’t gotten around to doing that yet…

We celebrated the awesome weather this weekend by fixing up our porches. I found a “camp hammock” for the front porch at Target. It’s really cool: the frame just pops right open and then you attach the sling hammock onto it. SIMPLE! And it’s SOOO nice to lay on the hammock and feel the breeze come through the screens on the porch. I totally love hammocks – Alex proposed to me on one so I think I’ll always have a hammock. :)

For the back porch, we found a little wooden bistro set at The Christmas Tree Shop. It’s totally cute – a square wooden table with two wood folding chairs. We also found a little teak side table that we put our little electric grill on. We have to have an electric grill because both of our porches are enclosed. We’ve used the grill twice so far and it actually works pretty good. Alex made steak tonight – it ROCKED. (He’s awesome!) We also bought some mini light bulb string lights that sort of remind me of the lights that they have in the Macaroni Grill. Alex hung them up tonight and they look awesome! I found a navy blue lantern on clearance at Target and it looks hella cute out there.

It’s awesome having all of the windows open in the apartment and it’s great having two porches. We’re really in love with our apartment – finally. ;)

Oh, and it’s 95 days until our wedding!!!!! I’ve finally been able to REALLY get myself motivated. I figured it out that I’ll need to lose 2 lbs a week in order to get to my goal weight by the wedding – so I’m totally back on program with weight watchers and not missing out on the gym. It’s easier, of course, now that it’s not SNOWING. I’m trying to do Core again. We’ll see how this works out for me…

Holy Crap I Almost Burned the Apartment Down.

December 12th, 2006

Seriously, I could have started a fire. I’m peeing my pants right now. Was sitting here and suddenly smelled something burning. Then my monitor went dark – well, went dim. My laptop was plugged in… Something must have happened to my power source. Started to freak out because the power cord was plugged in behind the sofa. Looked behind the sofa and saw no fire. My power cord for my computer was under a blanket beside the sofa. Didn’t realize it. Moved the blanket and smelled the burnt electronics smell. Went to grab the power thingy and it burned my hand. SOOOOOO freaking scary. What if I fell asleep?! Maybe it woulnd’t have actually started a fire… The thing is just fried, now. Which totally blows. My battery is half gone… SUCK. Now I’m going to have to buy a new one. Crap. Actually, should probably shut the computer down right about NOW.

(Of course, this means that I still can’t start my Christmas shopping… Was going to start shopping online tonight – yeah… waiting till the last minute… crap crap crap crap crap.)

(Oh, and the thingy is still freaking HOT!)

Today sucks so far.

Got up to go to the gym and went out in the hallway of our apartment building and saw smoke. The neighbor across the hall was also standing in his doorway. I freaked out. Alex called 911 from our apartment phone, and I called our super from my cell. I packed up my laptop, my camera, my phone, my ipod, some of my jewelry, and the insurance information for the apartment. I put together the cat carrier and grabbed my teddy bear (which Alex rescued after our last apartment burned). The fire department got here and started to go through the halls to try and find where the smoke was coming from. I wanted to cry – one of the guys saw me and said, “everything’s ok”. I hate that I wear my emotions right on my face all the time. They determined that someone two floors above us was cooking hot dogs or something stupid like that. Seems insane that she was cooking and it filled the hallways two floors down with smoke. She didn’t want to let them in her apartment. I’m sure she’s got drugs in there or something. We live in a building with a bunch of scumbags. I can’t wait to get out of here.

We went to the gym because I couldn’t stand to be around the fire trucks and the smoke. When we got there, the super called me and told me that I shouldn’t call the fire department when there’s smoke – just call him. Well let me tell you what, I went OFF on him. I told him that I’d had an apartment burn down on me before and I’d lost everything and I am NOT going through that again. I told him that when I see smoke, I call the fire department and I’ll do that no matter what he says. I am SO pissed off. We are TOTALLY moving. The people who live in this building are irresponsible, creepy people. And I’m sure that there is shit not up to code if the super doesn’t want me to call the fire department. I mean, three floors, at least, were filled with smoke and no smoke detectors went off. WTF?! We can afford to live in a much nicer place than this, but we’ve been staying here because I can walk to work from here and we only have one car right now. I’m not staying here any longer. I mean, we found out this AM that even the super moved out recently. It’s such a shame, because the neighborhood is super cute. Whatever. It’s not worth staying here anymore.

We took the day off so that we could relax a little bit and start looking for other places to live. (Also, I want to go dress shopping again.) I actually brought some data home yesterday so I’ve got some stuff that I can get done for work today from here. I hope we find something soon…

Random Thoughts

July 4th, 2006

So I finished “the compressing of the blogs” and now everything is in just this one blog. That is lovely for me because all of my posts are now in one place. So let me just tell you that that took forever. There is no easy way to merge blogs, so I had to go through each post on all of the other blogs and copy them one by one and note the title, date, and time of the post and paste it into this blog. Ugh. Anyway, it’s done now.

Oh, and the power outage in just our apartment the other day? It was a blown fuse. Of course. But the weird thing is there’s something wrong with the lights in our hallway. The light right outside of our door works… but that’s the only one. The lights by the stairwell do not work and as you leave the apartment and approach the stairs, it gets creepy. Today, the guy-who-is-not-the-super-but-lives-down-the-hall and-does-maintenance-likely-for-a-break-in-his-rent rigged up some of those hanging utility lights like from Home Depot or something so that the people at that end of the hall can actually see their doors when they come up the stairs. Anyway, it’s weird and potentially unsafe and creepy and it’s annoying that it’s been like that for at least 4 days now. Oh how I long for a house! But then again, I’m very cool with waiting for that until after we’re married.

Speaking of that, Alex has made it pretty clear to me that he’s planning on proposing this year and it’s recently occurred to me that it’s now more than halfway through the year and I’m still feeling fat as ever and I really have to get a move on dropping some pounds because I really don’t want to be trying on wedding gowns while I’m such a fatty. Will be definitely heading back to Weight Watchers this week! Have already been pretty good about getting back to the gym this week. Must remember to keep that up as well. Am thinking that we’ll have to just commit to going to the gym in the AM because there are just too many excuses in the evenings. That’s just really the thing. I’ve got too many excuses… It’s the weekend! It’s a holiday! I’ve been bad already today so I might as well have those fries! No more excuses!!!!!!

Anyway. I’m watching What Not to Wear. Someone out there: Please nominate me for this show! I dress terribly! I suck! If you need some ideas on what to say when you nominate me you can throw in the pity angle… “She lost everything in a fire and has since not replenished her wardrobe and she needs help!” Yeah, so you can email me anonymously for better wording than that. And I promise that I’ll act surprised when Stacey and Clinton show up to ridicule my outfit and whisk me away to NYC with a $5000 credit card to buy a new wardrobe. Ok, actually, can I just point out that $5000 is an entire half of our Insurance check that was to replace all of our belongings – not just clothes.

Anyway. It’s almost 230am. There’s no work tomorrow because it’s the 4th, so it’s OK that I’m staying up this late… But I have to make myself go to bed soon. I know the reason why I’m staying up is because I was hoping to stay up until Alex got back from the case that he’s on, but he called earlier to say that his case was delayed and that he wouldn’t be home until probably 9am or so. That kind of blows for him. No 4th of July day off fun for him – he’ll have to sleep all day. :(

I love fireworks. They are one of my favorite things ever. I’ve been so excited for fireworks for weeks, but now I’m obsessing that they’re going to be rained out tomorrow (today). I hope they’re not rained out. Please don’t be rained out. That’d suck. :(

OK. I’ve been babbling. I can tell. My contacts are dry. More babbling. Since I had to hang out with myself tonight, I decided to have a slumber party. I watched bad tv and ate chips (eek!) and did a Biore Pore Strip on my nose. Remember those? You stick them to your wet nose and they dry and adhere to it and then you rip it off your face, taking the contents of your pores with it. I haven’t used one of those in forever. The technology has not changed. They have tweaked the strip, though, with little slits in it so that it conforms to your nose better. Anyway, I was disgustingly fascinated with the gross strip after I peeled it off. I even took a picture of it using the supermacro mode of my camera. How gross is that? Don’t click here to look at it. Please don’t. It’s TOO GROSS!!! Really, actually, it is. I shouldn’t have posted that pic. EW!!!

I just got this picture off of my camera:

Doesn’t that picture rock?! I snapped that while Alex and I were walking across the bridge to Scotia so that we could see HOTD at Jumpin’ Jacks. Good Times.

OK. Must go to bed now. Where I will likely not go to sleep but will continue to read Wicked.

EEEKK!!! Oh My God! The cat just scared the CRAP out of me. She’s rolling around a golf ball – sounds like thunder. Must calm myself.
