Been a while…

August 3rd, 2009

…Since I’ve posted.  LIke, months.  And I got yelled at for that.  Sorry!  :)   So here’s what’s been going on:

The house

Our move into our house went smoothly – it felt like I packed for months before the move and yet I still was rushing around during the last hours before we had folks there to help us.  Who am I kidding?  We still weren’t totally packed when we were moving – we were throwing stuff in garbage bags and laundry baskets as usual.  Sigh.  At least this was the last time we’ll be moving for a long time!  AND next time we’re totally hiring movers.

We’ve been here for two months now and we’ve got our kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and bedroom completely settled furniture wise.  Our family room is mostly set up with our futon and old TV in the armoire and some bookcases.  I’m thinking that room will seem in transition for a while – we don’t use it right now and it will likely become a playroom someday.  The other two bedrooms are also just waiting for something.  The one bedroom that has two windows and a built in dresser in the cedar lined closet is completely empty.  I call that one the nursery.  Alex pretends he doesn’t hear me.

The other bedroom just has some things in it that really need to get stored in the attic – which is accessed through the stairs in the back of the closet in that room.  I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with that room.  I could put a desk/worktable up there to organize my paper crafting things.  Or I could put a bed in there to make it a guest room – we’d REALLY like to get a new mattress/boxspring set (so sad that ours is totally beat after only four years) and we could set up our current mattress and boxspring in there on a metal bedframe and do something creative for a headboard (or seek out an inexpensive queen bedroom set on craigslist).  It would be nice to have a queen sized bed in our guest room – but then, the room is the smallest of the bedrooms, so a queen sized bed may be too big for in there.  Also, no one visits us.  Ever.  We could seek out a twin bed for that room (or take the spare lofted twin that the folks are trying to get rid of) instead – then I’d be able to still put a crafting type setup in there and we’ll eventually need a twin bed down the road (again, Alex pretends not to hear me when I say that…).

We haven’t started to paint yet – mostly because we’ve never taken the time to figure out what we want to do paint-wise.  That’s the next project – expect posts with pictures soon – hear that Aunt Anne? ;)

Other Stuff

Well, I’m thirty now – which means I’m officially old.  Awesome.  I had an excellent birthday, involving surprise cube decorations and bagels at work, a trip to the Apple Store (yay! Apple Store!), a serenade by a gorilla while at lunch at the mall, cake from Villa Italia, watching “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” at my favorite movie theater, fireworks in the rain, and then drinks and snacks at Aperitivo.

Our two year anniversary was on Monday – we’re an old married couple now.  LOL.  We saw Coldplay at SPAC, which was really the first time we’d listened to Coldplay, but we’re both kind of fans now.  We had a really great night – it was awesome to have a date night, especially doing something out of the ordinary.  :)

We lost a cat for a week – our little white cat Finnegan went missing last Sunday.  I’m not sure how, but the both of them got out late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.  I didn’t realize it until that morning when I was making a pitcher of Cherry Lime drink (from Target – hella, hella good) at the kitchen sink and heard meowing outside.  I went to the door and let Fiona in.  We couldn’t find Finn at all that day – and he didn’t turn up all week.  I put up posters and posted a Lost listing on Craigslist and went out looking for him but there was no sign of him.  I thought he was dead or lost forever.  In fact, I considered getting a kitten yesterday – but I waited because Alex wasn’t around and I didn’t want to pick out a new cat without him.  I was at the computer late last night/very early this morning when Fiona went to the porch and started to hiss at something.  Alex was out having a guys night with his friends and I was home alone, so Fiona going to the porch and hissing FREAKED me out.  I pretended to be brave and went to the porch and shooed her inside – that’s when I heard meowing from outside the door.  I opened it and Finnegan ran in.  I was so happy I cried.  He was so happy it sounded like he was crying.  He was so skinny and he ran immediately to the food and water.  Fiona was freaked out and hissed at him – she still isn’t used to him yet.  I hope she recognizes him soon – it makes me sad that she’s hissing at him and apparently doesn’t remember him when he obviously remembers us since he came home to us.  I’m just so glad to have him home!

There’s probably about a million other things I can write about, but I think that’s about enough of an update for now.  I’m hoping to begin posting more regularly – I promise!  ;)

It’s weird the things that excite us…

ScoopFree® LB1 Self-Cleaning Litter Box
  blog it
Alex was so excited about this litter box he was shouting. It was Amazon.com’s deal of the day – 43% off. He’d been talking about our need to go back to an automated litter box and this one is a great deal and SUPER simple to clean up. The only thing is, the ongoing costs are high – the litter tray refills are like $17 a piece and they’ll likely only last us two weeks. We’ll have to figure out a way to reduce that cost – I’ve actually spent about an hour researching that this morning and found “forever litter trays” on ebay that are plastic instead of disposable. They’re expensive – almost as much as the litter box itself, but if we find that we like the box then we’ll probably go for it because spending $34 a month in litter is obnoxious… Anyway, it’ll be awesome to go back to having an automated box. Fiona doesn’t cover her poo (gross, I know) and it smelled SO BAD we were gagging.

Awesome cat post. Ugh. I am NOT a cat lady!!!

It's Been A While…

December 6th, 2006

So… There’s a lot to tell.

1. We had to put Ginny down. :( She took a turn for the worse and we had to do it. She was our baby and we still miss her every day. :( :( :(
2. We adopted two more cats. Finnegan and Fiona. Finn is about 3 months old and is black and white and very shy. Fiona is about a year old and is all black with a white spot on her chest and is talkative and bold. They are sweet in their own way, but we’re still getting to know them. And they’re not Ginny.
3. We moved. Our new apartment is a trillion times better than the old. It’s the top half of a two family home in a very nice neighborhood. It’s adorable. It is a little more expensive and we have to pay all of our own utilities in this apartment, so I’m anxious to see our first National Grid bill. But I’m very happy to be out of that disgusting old building.
4. No new news on the Wedding Planning front. I must: (1) Contact the priest who may be our officient to set up a meeting, (2) Figure out what we’re going to do for Ceremony music, (3) Find and book a Florist, (4) Figure out what I need to do to book blocks of hotel rooms, (5) Book the Bridal Suite for the night of our wedding – what a freaking kick in the pants that would be if we couldn’t have that room that night!, (6) Figure out what we can afford for a Honeymoon and figure out where to go and get on booking that, (7) Coordinate for bridesmaid dress shopping and decide to go with one dress for all girls or different dresses in the same fabric/color. That’s all for now. Gotta get on that stuff…
5. I haven’t started Christmas yet. No decorating done (still unpacking!) and no shopping done (oh dear Lord!).

That’s all for now. (OMG! OMG! STRESS! SO MUCH TO DO!!)

Another quick update…

November 12th, 2006

I hate that my posts have become quick updates of what’s been going on in the last couple of weeks. I’ve been so busy lately, though… And I’ve been reading a lot, which keeps me away from the computer.

I’ve been going dress shopping and to wedding shows… Fun times. We met with photographers last week. We met with Niki Rossi at Starbuck’s in Saratoga on Tuesday. She was great. SO funny and relaxed. Her style is very photo journalistic and her photos were awesome. Alex liked that she is all about candids and that when she does do the formal shots, she says that she’ll send you off to stand together and tell you to talk with each other while she snaps the pictures. He’s very much not into standing for a ton of formal shots.

We met with Linda Conley on Wednesday at Starbuck’s in Albany. Apparently, photographers like to meet at Starbuck’s. Linda’s style was more of a mix between formal and candids. Her albums were really beautiful. She seemed a little more conservative than Niki. I definitely felt like I’d be more relaxed around Niki. Linda’s packages are a little cheaper and I do like her pictures, so if Niki isn’t available, I’d still be happy with Linda.

I’m planning on booking a photographer this week and a DJ. The DJ that we’re going to go with is DJ Vinny of Cool Cat Entertainment – that is, if he’s still open! He seems very cool and I’ve heard nothing but good things about him. Erica from work said that he did her sister-in-laws wedding and that he was awesome. I’m pretty excited! :) So after this week, we’ll have a DJ, a Photographer, and possibly a dress! Yay!

OK, now the really depressing news. Ginny got sick last week. We were hoping that she was just a carrier of FeLV. Turns out, she’s not. She was fine all weekend but on Monday night she didn’t meet me at the door after work and didn’t beg for food during dinner. That is very unusual behavior for our spaz. She was also breathing kind of fast and it looked like it was hard for her to breathe. We took her to the vet the next day and they took chest xrays and she had a huge fluid build-up in her chest. Because she’s FeLV positive, her outlook is pretty grim. The dr let us take her home and gave her a shot of prednisone, just to see if it’d help. Amazingly, it did. By Thursday, when we thought we were going to be bringing her back to the vet to be put down, she was almost back to normal. The dr put her on oral prednisone – a tiny pill that we’re supposed to give her twice a day (along with tuna). She hates the pill. HATES it. Why would you ever prescribe a pill for a cat? Annoying.

Anyway, for now, she’s doing OK. She’s playing and being cute… but she sounds kind of crappy when she breathes. She’s not going to get better – Alex keeps reminding me of that. But for now she’s doing OK. We’ll take that.

Oh, and my last piece of news is that I did go back to WW and weighed in this Saturday and after my first week back on the program, I lost 4.6 lbs. I ROCK!!
