Alison Whines

December 29th, 2006

Actually, it’s Alison Wines. That’s the name of the vineyard that’s located in the Hudson Valley from which Beck got me a bottle of wine for Christmas. It was part of a “Things with your name on it” theme. She also got me a set of notecards with my “new” name on it: Alison Knowlton. (Giggle!!!) Anyway, I was sitting here thinking that it’d kind of be cute to have a bottle of red and a bottle of white on the table: one named Alison and the other named Alexander. I tried googling Alexander vineyard but I didn’t find any Alexander wines – just Alexander Valley Vineyards. Maybe that’d work…

Anyway, I thought that “AlisonWines.com” was a funny name for a website. I told Alex the name of he site and he said, “It’s true.” Whatever. ;)

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

December 29th, 2006

Soooo… Since Alex’s grandmother isn’t going to be at the wedding and since there’s a possibility that Beck might not be there, I started to consider having a videographer at the wedding. I emailed and called a bunch of people and the first demo DVDs came today. One guy sent a full sample DVD from a wedding he did at our site – at the Franklin Plaza!

I’ve never been to a wedding there so I was sooooo excited to see the video!! :) I got super-hyper-excited while we were watching it. :) Alex was not so hyper/excited. He was sitting in his chair playing World of Warcraft rolling his eyes at me. I jumped around the living room, running up to the TV to point out the things that I loved about the ballroom, etc. The wedding on the DVD didn’t have flowers on the candelabras, just candles like I’m planning on. They had the ceremony there and a harpist. It was so great seeing things “in action” that I’m thinking about.

I’m sooooooo excited!! :) There’s still so much to do, but the planning is almost the best part! ;)

More Big News!

December 29th, 2006

Michele, my friend from work, got engaged on Christmas morning! She completely wasn’t expecting it! Darryl gave her his grandmother’s ring – it looks so perfect on her finger! :) I’m so happy for them! She’s very cute about it – kind of shy… She barely told anyone our first day back at work. :) I ran out on lunch and got her a bridal planner. She totally made my day when she told me that she felt lucky to be sitting next to me because I could help her if she needs it with the planning. :)

Congrats, Michele & Darryl! :)

CONGRATULATIONS BECK AND KEVIN!!!!

December 26th, 2006

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a BABY in a baby carriage!!!

Yay!!! :) :) :)

Her due date is July 16th, which is one day before my birthday… and 11 days before our wedding. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a prompt baby so that Beck can still be at the wedding. Actually, my prediction is a girl on July 14th. I think 7/14 is a cool date because 7 x 2 is 14. I love dates like that.

Sooo… as a back up, I’ve started the search for a videographer. If she can’t be there in person, then at least we can watch the video together. Ooh! Maybe we can webcast it! I hope she can be there, though… I can’t imagine my wedding without Beck!

Anyway, I’m very excited for her. Beck’s gonna be a Mommy! Awwww… :)

Holy Crap I Almost Burned the Apartment Down.

December 12th, 2006

Seriously, I could have started a fire. I’m peeing my pants right now. Was sitting here and suddenly smelled something burning. Then my monitor went dark – well, went dim. My laptop was plugged in… Something must have happened to my power source. Started to freak out because the power cord was plugged in behind the sofa. Looked behind the sofa and saw no fire. My power cord for my computer was under a blanket beside the sofa. Didn’t realize it. Moved the blanket and smelled the burnt electronics smell. Went to grab the power thingy and it burned my hand. SOOOOOO freaking scary. What if I fell asleep?! Maybe it woulnd’t have actually started a fire… The thing is just fried, now. Which totally blows. My battery is half gone… SUCK. Now I’m going to have to buy a new one. Crap. Actually, should probably shut the computer down right about NOW.

(Of course, this means that I still can’t start my Christmas shopping… Was going to start shopping online tonight – yeah… waiting till the last minute… crap crap crap crap crap.)

(Oh, and the thingy is still freaking HOT!)

Apathy

December 7th, 2006

“Apathy is one of the characteristic responses of any living organism when it is subjected to stimuli too intense or too complicated to cope with.” – John Dos Passos

After reading last night’s post again, I realized that I’m feeling pretty apathetic about things lately. Here at work I’ve got WAY too many clients assigned to me – about 110. It’s just too much. My cube situation is a little crazy right now too, so I’ve got nowhere to go with all of my paperwork. The result is a cube that’s overflowing with crap, to-do lists that constantly grow, and me running around putting out fires all day. I feel like I’m constantly running on a treadmill that keeps increasing the speed and incline. I really like my job – not thinking of going anywhere or anything like that – but I just want the situation to improve. It’s exhausting and overwhelming and I don’t want to get apathetic about it, but it’s hard not to.

I’ve become apathetic in my personal life too. Last night we just sat and watched TV instead of finished the unpacking. We’re so close to being finished, but there are so many details to take care of yet: which room do I want to use as the office? Where do we want to put the liquor? Which bookcase should the Harry Potter books go on? Where do we want to keep the tools? Which closet should the AC get stored in? Etc, etc, etc… Then there’s all the details of Christmas that need to be taken care of… And then the Wedding planning. Oh, and all that weight that I want to lose. It’s much too overwhelming to think about any of it. I’ll just be Scarlett O’Hara – “I can’t think of that today. I’ll just think of that another day.”

I’ve got to get past this. I’ve got to work out a plan to deal with things one thing at a time. I’m not sure what to do about work – much of that is really outside of my control. I’ll continue to express to management how unrealistic the workload is. In my personal life, I do have more control… It should be easier to get things off my plate. One thing at a time. That should be my mantra…

It's Been A While…

December 6th, 2006

So… There’s a lot to tell.

1. We had to put Ginny down. :( She took a turn for the worse and we had to do it. She was our baby and we still miss her every day. :( :( :(
2. We adopted two more cats. Finnegan and Fiona. Finn is about 3 months old and is black and white and very shy. Fiona is about a year old and is all black with a white spot on her chest and is talkative and bold. They are sweet in their own way, but we’re still getting to know them. And they’re not Ginny.
3. We moved. Our new apartment is a trillion times better than the old. It’s the top half of a two family home in a very nice neighborhood. It’s adorable. It is a little more expensive and we have to pay all of our own utilities in this apartment, so I’m anxious to see our first National Grid bill. But I’m very happy to be out of that disgusting old building.
4. No new news on the Wedding Planning front. I must: (1) Contact the priest who may be our officient to set up a meeting, (2) Figure out what we’re going to do for Ceremony music, (3) Find and book a Florist, (4) Figure out what I need to do to book blocks of hotel rooms, (5) Book the Bridal Suite for the night of our wedding – what a freaking kick in the pants that would be if we couldn’t have that room that night!, (6) Figure out what we can afford for a Honeymoon and figure out where to go and get on booking that, (7) Coordinate for bridesmaid dress shopping and decide to go with one dress for all girls or different dresses in the same fabric/color. That’s all for now. Gotta get on that stuff…
5. I haven’t started Christmas yet. No decorating done (still unpacking!) and no shopping done (oh dear Lord!).

That’s all for now. (OMG! OMG! STRESS! SO MUCH TO DO!!)
